Opening: Regional Safety Manager 

Regional Safety Manager Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages all aspects of DOT and OSHA safety and compliance for assigned terminals, shops, offices and grounds.
  • Has knowledge of, and is conversant about, the FMCSA, Canada MOT, and OSHA regulations as they apply to assigned terminals and personnel.  Acts as in-house expert on regulations for other company personnel.
  • Travels to assigned terminals on regular basis for duties such as employee training, safety surveys, accident/incident investigations, and road testing of new hires.
  • Sets up and facilitates driver safety meetings and inspects company equipment at assigned terminals as needed.
  • Investigates motor vehicle accidents, injuries, incidents and near-miss events to assist MTS claims processor and insurance captive.
  • Remains on-call to handle after-hours emergencies, traveling to the site to handle the emergency or investigate it properly when necessary.
  • Monitors assigned terminals on company’s accident register.  Identifies trends, takes steps to bring down number of preventable accidents, incidents and injuries.
  • Monitors PeopleNet eLog system for assigned terminals.  Works with Compliance Department on log compliance, roadside inspections, and daily SpeedGauge reports.
  • Monitors DriveCam videos on a daily basis for assigned terminals to identify drivers who need counseling, retraining or need to be eliminated from the fleet due to safety issues. 
  • Monitors SaferSys, CSA and Vigillo to help identify drivers from assigned terminals who need counseling, retraining or need to be eliminated from the fleet due to increased risk brought out in roadside inspections and moving violations.
  • Works with insurance company loss control reps when required.
  • Participates in FMCSA compliance audits when required.
  • Maintains valid, acceptable MVR for use of company vehicles and/or rental vehicles in the course of business.
  • Creates reports, memos or programs using MS Word, Excel, or PowerPoint for trending, meetings, or training.
  • Does regular walk-throughs of company shops, offices and grounds to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Assists in the start-up of large new lanes or terminal locations as needed.
  • Participates in company meetings and attends outside training sessions as assigned.
  • Other duties from time to time as assigned or as business need change.

Skills and Requirements:

College degree or equivalent experience in the trucking industry safety management field preferred.  Computer skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Ability to travel as needed by vehicle or air plane.  Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours as needed.  CDL holder, or past CDL experience, helpful in this position.
